Will my insurance cover this vaccine? Medicare Part D sometimes covers it. We can check for you before your appointment to get the shot. We bill most insurances with the exception of Medicare part A or B. We have to bill prescription insurance since you are getting the shot in our Pharmacy.
Why does Northern Pharmacy not bill my health insurance? We don’t bill your health insurance because you are getting the shot in our Pharmacy. Your health insurance would be billed if your doctor administered the shot.
How effective is the Shingles Vaccine?
The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent you from getting a severe case of shingles. It does not prevent you from getting it ever again.What exactly is shingles? Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Only someone who has had a case of chickenpox or has had the chickenpox vaccine can get shingles. This virus stays in your body and can manifest many years later as shingles.
Who should get vaccinated? Anyone who has had the chicken pox needs to get vaccinated, but the CDC recommends that everyone 60 years old and older be vaccinated.
Will I need a booster shot? No, the shingles vaccination is a once in a lifetime shot.
