Juneteenth – Honoring Freedom, History & Progress
Juneteenth, observed each year on June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equality.
Although the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, many enslaved people in Texas did not learn they were free until June 19, 1865—more than two years later—when Union troops arrived in Galveston to enforce emancipation. This day became known as Juneteenth and has grown into a powerful national celebration of freedom and African American history and culture.
Juneteenth is a time to reflect on the past, honor the strength of those who came before us, and recognize the ongoing journey toward justice and equality for all.
Today, communities celebrate through:
Educational events and community gatherings
Cultural festivals and parades
Supporting Black-owned businesses
Reflection, remembrance, and service
Conversations about equity, history, and progress
At Northern Pharmacy & Medical Equipment, we believe in the importance of community, compassion, and equal access to care for all. Juneteenth reminds us that health, dignity, and opportunity should be available to everyone.
As we recognize this important day, we honor the past while continuing to build a healthier, stronger, and more inclusive future.
Freedom. Equality. Unity.
Today and every day.
