Shingles Vaccine FAQs
How much is it going to cost?
The cash price of the shot is $188.98, which includes an administration fee.
Is my insurance going to cover it?
Medicare Part D sometimes covers it. We can check for you before your appointment to get the shot. We DO NOT bill Medicare part A or B. We have to bill prescription insurance since you are getting the shot in our Pharmacy.
What’s the earliest/latest I can get it?
On your scheduled Friday we start giving the shots at 10am and stop at 7pm.
Does it hurt?
The Pharmacist will go over that more thoroughly with you, will let you know of any side effects.
How come you don’t bill my health insurance?
We don’t bill your health insurance because you are getting the shot in our Pharmacy. Your health insurance would be billed if your doctor administered the shot.
Can I buy the shot in your Pharmacy and have my Doctor give it to me?
That is possible but difficult. We would still bill your insurance for the price of the shot just not the administration fee. The shot would have to be ice packed because it’s kept frozen until administered. You would only have a 20 minute window from picking up the shot to actually receiving the shot due its sensitivity to temperature.
Is the shot effective?
The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent you from getting a severe case of shingles. It does not prevent you from getting it ever again.
What exactly is shingles?
Shingles is the same virus that causes chickenpox. Only someone who has had a case of chickenpox – or has had the chickenpox vaccine – can get shingles. This virus stays in your body and can manifest many years later as shingles.
